The Labradoodle.

labradoodle BreedThe labradoodle has been in existence since 1988 when a Australian breeder crossed the Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle. The purpose was to combine the low-shedding coat of the poodle with the loyalty and trainability of a Labrador Retriever. The result was a hypo-allergenic guide dog that was immediately loved by all who met him.  Since then the breed has increased in popularity in the United Sattes and all across the world.

Breeding for Health.

Labradoodle HealthFor those unfamiliar with Labradoodles, there are two classifications. The first is "F1" which refers to fist generation, meaning bred from a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle. F1b" is the breeding of a Labradoodle to a poodle, yeilding a 3/4 poodle mix. "F2" is the result of breeding two Labradoodles. One of the benefits of crossing two different breeds is to minimize the health issues that are associated with each breed. Simply, we currently raise F1 Labradoodle for the best chance at a long healthy life.

Our History.

Kkiokee churchiokee Creek lazily meanders down the back of the property. Kiokee is a Cherokee word meaning "Falls Creek". It also is the name of the first Baptist Church in Georgia, which was started by Daniel Marshall in 1772.  The reverend is the grandfather, 6 generations back, of Tammy Marshall Meissner, the owner of Double Gap Farm and is on the land that was part of the original Marshall homestead. The property was granted to Daniel Marshall and his sons for their service in the Revolutionary War.
